MOA Lobbyist, Ronna Wallace, has been working hard on Beacon Hill dealing with a variety of significant bills in the Legislature. In 2012, this activity will again include dealing with payment reform that continues to dominate the legislative landscape. The MOA will advocate for medical liability reform, antitrust protections and administrative simplifications to be part of a comprehensive approach to cost control and containment.

The quest by podiatrists for the expansion of their scope of practice continues and the MOA has made significant strides to actively oppose the bill proposed and has meet with key legislative leaders to suggest alternate language to protect patients and preserve our practice. Special thanks to Dr. Christopher Chiodo, MOA Board Member and AAOS Councilor, for taking the time to visit the State House to urge legislators to use caution in considering changes to practice scope without enhanced training and education.

On behalf of Association members, Ms. Wallace monitors bills, submits testimony and meets with key legislative officials on bills related to health care and the practice of medicine in the Commonwealth. If you would like more information, she can be reached at 617-721-5655. Please consider taking an active role in the legislative process in 2012. How you can participate and help will be sent via email to members. The MOA augments the efforts of the AAOS legislative activities on a national level and in 2011, your Association contacted Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senators to urge a permanent fix to the Medicare SGR and request their support of HR 1409, championed by the AAOS and Michael Connair, MD – AAOS Councilor for Connecticut, which would secure physicians' rights to collectively negotiate. As in previous years, we will once again represent members in Spring 2012 when the AAOS hosts its annual NOLC in Washington, DC and members of the MOA will meet with Congressional leaders in Washington to urge their support of HR 1409 and continue to advocate for our Medicare patients, reasonable reimbursement and quality care in our Country.
